What is TRON (TRX)?
TRON (TRX) is a decentralized blockchain-based platform launched in 2017 by Justin Sun and the Tron Foundation. Originally deployed as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, TRON migrated to its own mainnet in 2018 and has since become one of the most active blockchain networks in the world.
How TRON Works
TRON uses a consensus mechanism called Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS). TRX token holders can freeze their coins to receive Tron Power, which allows them to vote for 27 Super Representatives — block producers responsible for verifying transactions. These Super Representatives earn TRX rewards, which are distributed among voters.
TRX Token Utility
TRX serves multiple functions within the TRON ecosystem: it is used to pay transaction fees on the TRON blockchain, to participate in DeFi protocols and staking, to interact with decentralized applications (dApps), and as collateral in the USDD algorithmic stablecoin system. TRON is capable of processing over 2,000 transactions per second — significantly faster than Bitcoin or early Ethereum.
TRON and USDT
One of TRON's most critical real-world use cases is serving as the preferred network for Tether (USDT) transfers. The majority of global USDT transactions are settled on the TRON network due to its extremely low fees and fast confirmation times. This structural demand is a major driver of TRX's on-chain activity and long-term valuation.
TRON Ecosystem
TRON's ecosystem includes USDD (its algorithmic stablecoin), JustLend (lending protocol), SunSwap (decentralized exchange), and BitTorrent — which TRON acquired in 2018. The TRON DAO Reserve manages billions in assets to maintain USDD stability. In 2025, TRON DAO expanded its AI Fund from $100 million to $1 billion, signaling a strategic push into artificial intelligence.
Who Created TRON?
TRON was created by Justin Sun, who continues to serve as a leading figure in the ecosystem. The network is governed by the TRON DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), which oversees protocol upgrades, treasury management, and ecosystem development.
